This position is part of a research initiative aimed at developing analysis support infrastructures in the field of criminal justice, using data science, artificial intelligence, and knowledge graphs.
📌 Position Overview
- Title: Researcher in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (m/f/x)
- Project: Knowledge Graphs for Justice (KG4J)
- Contract: Fixed-term (1 year, renewable up to 4 years)
- Working Hours: Full-time (38h/week)
- Location: National Institute of Criminalistics and Criminology (NICC), Brussels, Belgium
🎯 Main Responsibilities
The selected candidate will contribute to:
- The design and development of a knowledge graph infrastructure for justice
- The analysis of diverse data (criminological, forensic, DNA, etc.)
- The application of artificial intelligence methods (LLM, Graph-RAG, etc.)
- The transformation of unstructured data into structured data (text-to-KG)
- The implementation of data and AI governance frameworks
🧩 Desired Profile
We are looking for someone:
- Holding a Master’s degree in one of the disciplines listed below
- Fluent in French and English
- With skills in computer science, data science, and graph theory
- Interested in knowledge graphs, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing
- Capable of working in an interdisciplinary research environment
- Willing to pursue a PhD in Computer Science (joint degree UMons-KU Leuven)

Knowledge Graphs for Justice (KG4J) is a research project aimed at building a knowledge graph infrastructure at NICC, integrating data, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytical methods to improve forensic intelligence and criminological research.
