About

Patrick P. J. M. H. Jeuniaux

I am a researcher and chief data officer at the NICC. My background connects cognitive psychology, psycholinguistics, statistics, artificial intelligence, and criminology.

This page primarily presents my current functions, my career path, and the main objects of my work.

Current Roles

I currently work as a researcher and chief data officer at the National Institute of Forensic Science and Criminology (NICC), in Belgium.

My recent activity focuses on the integration of criminal justice data through knowledge graphs and the implementation of a data and artificial intelligence governance strategy.

I am also a research collaborator at UCLouvain.

Career Path

My professional path has led me to work in Belgium, the United States, Canada, and Italy.

I trained in cognitive psychology and received additional training in statistics at UCLouvain, then additional training in artificial intelligence at KU Leuven.

I then obtained a PhD in psycholinguistics at the University of Memphis.

Finally, I completed two postdoctorates, one in cognitive psychology at Laval University and the other in computational linguistics at the University of Pisa.

Fields of Work

My work today is at the intersection of several fields:

  • criminal justice data (forensic DNA intelligence, recidivism, criminal careers, etc.);
  • knowledge graphs and graph-oriented databases;
  • data governance and reasoned use of AI in public institutions.

Methods and Tools

I work with experimental, statistical, and computational methods. On the technical side, I mainly use Linux, Bash, Python, R, SQL, Neo4j, Jupyter and LaTeX. I place particular importance on data quality, process traceability, and clear documentation.

Benchmarks

Over the years, I have worked on language acquisition, computational linguistics, distributional semantic models, criminal databases, radicalization, recidivism, and knowledge graphs. I have also taught at the university and contributed to the preparation or management of several funded projects.
